Title | Image | Description | Alnico | Output |
---|---|---|---|---|
J. Fletch II | Nicely trimmed top end and more push through the mids and bass, this adds a thickness to the tone.
Single coils of long double-poles, using reasonably strong Alnico 2 magnets to give a wide area of sensitisation and decent power. A tall thin coil, packed with AWG42, results in a smoother, fuller tone.
Great if your JB voice just needs thickening up a bit. | Alnico 2 | Vintage
Neck 7.2k 3.0H
Bridge 7.4k 3.2H | |
J. Fletch III | Still the same feel of a JB, but with smoother, woodier tones with much less attack.
Single coils of long double-poles, using weak Alnico 3 magnets to give a wide area of sensitisation and relatively low. A tall thin coil, packed with AWG42, results in an articulate, sophisticated voice.
Less funk, more jazz! | Alnico 3 | Vintage
Neck 7.2k 3.0H

J. Fletch V | We know the versatility of this design. Smooth thumpy bass in the neck & bright plinky bass in the bridge, and all those in between.
Single coils of long double-poles, using strong Alnico 5 magnets to give a wide area of sensitisation and plenty of power. A tall thin coil, packed with AWG42, results in a bright, focused bass tone.
Hand/scatter winding keeps some of the frequencies lost be cheap pickups, for a broader more musical tone & exceptional dynamics. | Alnico 5 | Vintage

J. Fletch VI | Subtle reduction of the top end and a slightly fuller mid.
Single coils of long double-poles, using strong Alnico 4 magnets to give a wide area of sensitisation and plenty of power. A tall thin coil, packed with AWG42, results in an ever so slightly fuller bass tone, with the same controlled low end of Alnico 5. | Alnico 4 | Vintage
Neck 7.2k 3.0H
Bridge 7.4k 3.2H | |
Mustang Bass | Somewhat of a mash up between P & J bass pickups.
Single Alnico poles per string like a P bass, as well as Humbucking, but smaller, narrower coils like a J.
Has a somewhat bright and cheerful bass voice.
Alnico 5 will give the best treble response, with a measured low end, with Alnico 4 sounding almost ecactly the same to me - perhaps a touch less hasty in the upper register.
Alnico 2 is thicker in the mids with a woolier low end. A smoother, more bassy bass.
Alnico 3 has a natural woody kind of feel. Low powered and articulate. | Alnico II, III, IV or V | 7.5k 2.9H |
