Unlike the strat, the jag bridge pickup is parallel to the bridge
The inimitable Jag pickup. Similar to a Strat pickup, but with the Claw - a Steel shield which boosts the inductance and broadens the magnetic field, resulting in a warmer and smoother voice.
My Jags are scatter-wound directly onto hand finished Alnico magnets and mounted on laser cut fibreboard flatwork with the distinctive Claw, then potted in wax.
I use period correct cloth covered wire.

Wound with thinner wire and slightly overwound, these smooth out more of the mids for a creamier voice. Not really 'modern', but not as top-heavy as vintage, with a touch more power

With Alnico 2 poles for a smoother, warmer response and the gauss focussing claw, these pickups are bright like a Strat but with even more push in the mids.
Still bright and spanky, with a subtle trim off the top end and thicker mids.

Formvar Jag
Used in the original pickups, Formvar is the type of coating on the insulated coil wire and is thicker than normal Poly insulated coil wire. This results in a fatter coil with more space between the wires in the coil. Resulting in a more open, airy 'vintage' sound.
Only available for Vintage Spec pickups.

Overwound Underwound
Most Vintage wound Pickups can be Overwound to Vintage-Hot wind for more presence and for brighter guitars or just for a bit more grunt and a more modern sound.All Pickups can be Underwound up to 10% for more clarity or for dark or hollow guitars. Contact me directly to discuss this option.

Blended
If you find your unwound strings on the shrill side and pulling the strings, consider using a blend of magnets in the bridge pickup. With an Alnico 5 bridge pickups, using Alnico 2 or 3 in the GBE string position will smooth out the tones and add a little more warmth in your solos. Contact me directly to discuss this option.
